This dissertation aims to study urban continuity and what could enable it in an Indian context. It explores complex living spaces, going beyond just the built fabric into the wide range of other aspects that define the character of a city.
The case study of the dense urban fabric in the Charminar area of my hometown of Hyderabad in India studies the danger to the historic core city area and demonstrates the urgent requirement to safeguard the city’s living heritage, with an aim to achieve continuity in the inner-city, rather than just conservation.
