The Nizam Sagar  is  a dam on the Manjira River in Achampet It  is of 57 km from Kamareddy and 145km from Hyderabad.

Description

The Nizam Sagar Dam, a crucial reservoir constructed across the Manjira River, stands as a vital tributary of the Godavari. Spanning between the villages of Achampet and Banjapalle in Telangana’s Kamareddy district, this dam serves as the primary source of drinking water for Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It holds the distinction of being the oldest dam in Telangana.

This expansive masonry dam stretches over the river for 3 kilometers (1.9 miles), boasting a 14-foot-wide motorable road atop it. Nearby, there are commendable accommodations available, catering to the needs of visiting tourists.

Situated approximately 145 kilometers northwest of Hyderabad, and 81 kilometers from Nizamabad District, the Nizam Sagar Dam dates back to 1923, constructed under the rule of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the then ruler of Hyderabad. The dam’s construction necessitated the relocation of residents from 40 villages in the area.

The Nizam Sagar Project stands as the second irrigation scheme on the Manjira River. Following the reorganization of states in 1956, the Manjira basin was redistributed among the three states of Telangana, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.
