Location

Description
The Sultan Bazar clock tower, located in the Sultan Bazar Government Boys School in Chaderghat, Hyderabad, was built in 1865 during British rule. It is one of the oldest clock towers in the city and has a simple yet sophisticated design. Originally, it stood in front of the British Residency with an unobstructed view. Unlike other clock towers, it is not overly ornamented and only has a square base with few visible embellishments on the roof. The pendulum clock installed during its construction ran accurately for several years without requiring servicing. The year of construction is engraved on the clock tower’s facade. The roof is styled after the typical Asaf Jahi buildings of the time, with chajjas supported by six corbels on each side. However, the clock tower is not visible from the road due to trees and other buildings obstructing the view. Despite this, it played a significant role in the British town of Chaderghat.
Existing Condition
The clock tower is no longer visible from the main road, as it is obstructed by adjacent plantation. The plaster facade of the clock tower shows signs of aging.
