Description

During the reign of Ibrahim Quli in 1578 , a eunuch named Yaqoot dreamt Imam Ali seated upon the summit of a hill near Lallaguda. The next day, the eunuch found the sidemarks of Imam Ali at the very place where he was seated in the dream. A shrine was built atop the very spot, hewn out of stone. When Ibrahim Qutb Shah learnt of this incident, he paid a visit to the hill and paid his respects. A mosque was also erected on the hill by Ibrahim Quli. There are alot of Qutb Shahi and Asaf Jahi nobles buried in the shadow of the blessed hill. The Asaf Jahi monarchs paid their tributes to the holy shrine with a procession and a military parade. It is now known as Kohe Maula Ali Shareef and an annual Urs takes place every year attracting thousands across faiths.

Dating back to the 19th century, the Maula Ali Kaman stands to welcome devotees to the revered Shi’ite shrine atop the Maula Ali Hill. Its original purpose of this imposing structure was to welcome the Nizam and his troops to the sacred precinct but it also served for demarcating the boundary. An elephant was used as part of the Moharram processions during the Nizam period. The Kaman or Arch is well known among the area as the entry to the historic precinct with Qutub Shahi period tombs and aashurkhanas.
