Sri Balaji Venkateshwara Swamy Devasthanam
Description
The primary deity is Mallanna or Mallikarjuna Swamy who is an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The deity is also called as Khandoba by the Maharashtrian people.
The history says that Komaranna from the Yadava community self-punished Lord Shiva and installed the Idol on the hill. The Mallanna Idol is 8 feet and made with clay.
Mallanna along with his consorts Golla Kethamma, Goddess Ganga and Medalamma, Goddess Parvati are at the main temple. The Oggu Katha singers sing the tale of Mallanna here. Devotees offer prayers to Mallanna with the help of Oggu Pujaris who draw a rangoli called as Patnam ( A form of offering prayers to Lord ) in front of Lord Mallanna inside temple and also in temple’s verandah. which narrates the marriage of Lord Mallanna to Goddess Medalamma, subject to challenging conditions set by her brothers. The temple sees a surge in pilgrim visits during festivals like Makara Sankranthi and Maha Shivaratri, with devotees seeking blessings from Mallanna.
Goddess Medallamma is also called as Bramarambika, who is consort of Lord Shiva.
The temple has undergone recent renovations by the Endowments department and is closely associated with the nearby Konda Pochamma temple. The temple’s history is transmitted through the traditional storytelling form of Oggu Katha, with the help of Oggu Pujaris who create rangolis as offerings. This sacred site is an integral part of the cultural and religious landscape of the region.
