Description
The Telangana government has undertaken an impressive renovation of the Yadadri Temple Complex, a 1000-year-old cave temple with a rich history. Situated between Bhongir and Raigiri in Nalgonda district, this temple holds the legacy of Yadarishi, a sage from Tretayugam, who engaged in deep penance within its cave with the blessings of Anjaneya (Hanuman). Lord Narasimha, an incarnation of Vishnu, appeared before Yadarishi in five different forms – Sri Jwala Narasimha, Sri Yogananda, Sri Gandabherunda, Sri Ugra, and Sri Lakshmi Narasimha. These forms are now revered within the temple, collectively known as Pancha Narasimha Kshetram.
Dominating the sanctum sanctorum of the cave temple is a resplendent golden Sudarshana Chakra (measuring about 3 ft x 3 ft), symbolizing Lord Vishnu, the source of Lord Narasimha’s incarnation. This iconic Chakra serves both as an adornment and a weapon, visible from up to 6 km away.
The restoration efforts have transformed the temple complex into a grand structure spread over 17 acres and three stories, boasting seven gopurams (temple towers) adorned with sculptures. While the project encompasses a vast area of 2,000 acres, the immediate development covers 250 acres around the hill shrine.
Previously confined to a small area of 2,500 square yards, the expanded complex now provides ample space for devotees to move freely after darshan and receive prasadam. The renovated premises can comfortably accommodate up to one lakh (100,000) devotees.
The Yadadri Temple Complex, perched atop a hillock in Yadagirigutta, spans over 14.5 acres. The new complex features seven temple domes (Gopuram), including a towering 100-foot dome that offers panoramic views. Additionally, a portion of the sprawling 1,400-acre complex will cater to tourists, offering facilities such as tourist cottages, a multilevel parking lot for 7000 vehicles, and housing for temple priests.
A workforce of more than 500 skilled sculptors has meticulously carved intricate designs and statues on the temple’s pillars and exteriors. Utilizing black granite stone in adherence to the architectural style of the Kakatiya Dynasty, the temple stands as a tribute to the dynasty’s heritage. The use of black granite, known for its fine pores and robustness, further enhances the temple’s allure.
Existing Condition
The new temple is major pilgrimage spot in the state and is maintained by the YTDA.
