Description

Vemulawada is home to a renowned Lord Shiva , often known as Dakshina Kasi. Devotees who visit this temple come to offer their worship to the main deity, Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy. The temple complex also includes the Sri Raja Rajeshwari Devi temple and an auspicious idol of Sri Laxmi Sahitha Sidhi Vinayaka. The primary deity, also referred to as Rajanna, holds a special place in the region.

The historical importance of Vemulawada is underscored by the discovery of rock-cut inscriptions in and around the temple. This area served as the capital of the Vemulawada Chalukyas from 750 AD to 973 AD, further emphasizing its historical significance.

Vemulawada is also associated with celebrated Telugu poet “Bheemakavi,” and there is compelling evidence of the famous Kannada poet “Pampa” residing here. Pampa served as the court poet of Arikesari-II and dedicated his work “Kannada Bharatha” to his royal patronage, leaving a lasting literary legacy in the region.
