Location
The temple is located at Somasila which is on the banks of Krishna river. It is 58km from Nagarkurnool,the district headquarters and 9km from Kollapur.
Description
This 7th-century temple is located on the banks of the Krishna River. Its original location was further away, at the erstwhile Somasila village which is now submerged in Krishna River Reservoir due to the construction of Srisailam Dam.The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and there are 15 temples in its complex. It was built in the 7th century by the Chalukya rulers. It was reconstructed again under the supervision of the State branch of the Archaeological Society of India and the Endowments Department.
Once in 12 years piligrms take a dip in the Krishna river ghat for the Krishna pushkaram.

Somasila is also known for its serene landscape,its location on the backwaters of Krishna in the Nallamalla forests makes it a perfect weekend getaway. There are cottages and resorts available for the tourists..
