In terms of core area, the Amrabad Tiger Reserve ranks as the second-largest tiger reserve in India. However, when considering the total area, it is the sixth-largest among the 51 Tiger Reserves in the country. The sanctuary was initially designated in 1983, and after the bifurcation of the Telugu states in 2014, it was declared as the Amrabad Tiger Reserve.
The reserve encompasses three forest divisions: Amarabad, Achampet in Nagarkurnool district, and Nagarjunsagar division in Nalgonda district. Its strategic location within the Eastern Ghats chain, specifically the Nallamala Hills, contributes to its ecological significance and conservation value. The Amrabad Tiger Reserve serves as a well-known and well-preserved nature reserve, preserving the unique biodiversity of the region while also playing a crucial role in conserving the tiger population in India.
