Hayat Nagar Masjid

Hayath Nagar is situated about 16 km east of Hyderabad and was built by Hayath Bakshi Begum in 1626. A milestone masonry pillar of the Qutb Shahi reign may be seen near the village. In the royal palace of Hayath Nagar, the ceremony of the first tonsure of Sultan Abdullah Qutb Shah was celebrated by his mother, Hayath Baksh Begum, on a very grand scale for twelve days in 1631.0utside these royal buildings is a grand mosque. On a terrace measuring about 150 feet each way is situated the extensive Caravan Sarai. The mosque proper is composed of five double arches of massive masonry and is flanked by two lofty minarets. The extensive courtyard is about 450′ x 400′, and is surrounded on all sides by several hundred double rooms which were intended for the use of travellers, and were known as “Sarai of Ma Saheba”. The mosque is a very fine specimen of Qutb Shahi architecture and is worth a visit. At the north-eastern extremity of the courtyard there is a big well known as “Hati Bauli”, (Elephant well), the water of which was drawn by elephants.
