Domakonda Fort

Location

The Domakonda fort is located in Domakonda town. It is 17km from Kamareddy and 115km from Hyderabad.

Description

Domakonda, previously under the rule of the Qutb Shahis and subsequently the Asaf Jahis, witnessed the fort’s construction in the 18th century by the Reddy rulers. This strategic location was chosen due to a preexisting fort in the area.

Erected during the 18th century, the fort boasts an elevated compound formed by granite rocks, establishing its defensive boundary. A wooden entrance leads to the impressive two-storied fort, adorned with striking stuccowork that continues to captivate visitors.

Known as “Gadi Domakonda” or “Killa Domakonda,” the fort houses a grand palace, referred to as “Addhala Meda” (Glass house). This magnificent estate features a central courtyard hosting a serene water garden pond, protected by granite pillars rooted firmly into the earth. The ground floor reflects Mughal architectural influences with its ornate arched pillars, while the first floor embodies Western architectural elements with its round pillars and flat ceiling.

The fort remains under the administrative control of the royal families of Domakonda, preserving their legacy within this historic structure.
