Dr. Zakir Husain was a prominent Indian statesman and the third President of India. Born on February 8, 1897, in Hyderabad, he played a significant role in shaping the nation’s history. He was a man of exceptional intellect, immense integrity, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. He was an economist and was awarded his Ph.D. from the University of Berlin. He was a prominent advocate for educational reforms and firmly believed that education was the key to empowering individuals and driving societal progress.
In 1952, Dr. Husain was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, where he implemented various reforms, promoting inclusivity and modernization. He served as the Governor of Bihar and was the Vice-President of India before being elected as the President in 1967. He was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1954 and the Bharat Ratna in 1963. During his presidency, he advocated for the upliftment of marginalized communities and emphasized the importance of secularism and religious tolerance, promoting a sense of unity among the diverse population of India.
He passed away on May 3, 1969, during his presidency. President Zakir Husain left behind a lasting legacy as a champion of education, a promoter of harmony, and a symbol of integrity in public life.
