Deori Akram Ali Khan Gate

It is located on the Karwan road near the Tappa Chabutra Police Station.

Description

Built in the early 20th century, On the Karwan e Saruwan road stands a magnificent gate of the Indo-European Deori of Nawab Akram Ali Khan, an Asaf Jahi noble. After the fall of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, the diamond trade declined and the traders disappeared. The gate is a small remaining part of a vast Deori that has crumbled into oblivion. Structurally, the gateway is a two storied structure with the traditional Naqarkhana is replaced by a wooden paneled balcony. The top of the gateway is crowned by a Roman pediment, with floral and vegetal patterns in stucco in the entablature. Stone corbels similar to those found in the Golconda Tombs can be found supporting the chajjas on the first story.

Existing Condition

Few of the wooden beams supporting the upper level of the gateway are missing or damaged due to weathering. Large flex boards cover the front entrance.
