Panagal Fort

Location

At a distance of 1.5 km from Pangal Bus Station, the Pangal Fort is located in Pangal in the Mahabubnagar District.

Description

Pangal Fort is one of the Famous Hill Forts of Telangana. It was built by Kalyani Chalukya Kings during 11th and 12th Centuries. The fort is spread across hundreds of acres with Seven Gateways. The Main entrance is called Mundlagavini, and was constructed with huge granite rocks.

 

 

The ruins of the Pangal Fort houses several monuments including the Uyyala Mandapam and several water structures. The fort was witness to many wars between the Bahmani, Vijayanagara, Padmanayaka and Qutub Shahi dynasties. The fort also witnessed guerrilla warfare during the revolts against the Nizams.

Existing Condition

The fort is in ruins with no proper vehicular access.
