Devarakonda Fort

Location

Devarakonda Fort is at a distance of nearly 117 kms from Hyderabad on the Nagarjuna Sagar road, from on a small diversion from Kondalpahad.

Description

The Devarakonda fort, constructed in the 13th-14th century, is a symbol of prosperity established by the kingdom of Padma Nayaka Veluma Rajas. The fort was ruled by Padma Nayaka Veluma Raja from 1278 to 1482 AD, and was known as the “heart of one and slave of none.”

Later, the fort was conquered by Maada Naidu, one of the eight kings of the Padma Nayaka rulers. Maada Naidu was not only a great ruler, but also a prodigy and brave warrior. Under his leadership, the fort became a well-established center of cultural heritage with the construction of several temples. Maada Naidu was responsible for many of the brilliant changes that make this fort so remarkable, including the astonishing stairs that lead to Patala Ganga in Srisailam. He was a ruler who truly cared for his people.

After Maada Naidu, the Devarakonda Kingdom was passed down to his son, Pedha Vedagiri Naidu. Vedagiri Naidu continued his father’s legacy and ruled for around 26 years, adding an extra charm to the kingdom.
