Ali Yavar Jung

Description

Nawab Ali Yavar Jung Bahadur was born in Hyderabad in 1906. He studied at Queens College, Oxford, earning a degree in History. He served as Indian Ambassador in Argentina, Egypt, Yugoslavia and Greece, France, and the United States. Ali Yavar Jung was governor of the Indian state of Maharashtra from 1971 to 1976. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan and the Padma Vibhushan, in 1959 and 1977, respectively. The Western Express Highway (WEH) in Mumbai (officially called the Ali Yavar Jung Marg) and The National Institute for the Hearing Handicapped located in Mumbai are named after him.
