Banganapalle Mangoes

‘Banaganapalle mangoes’, also known as Beneshan, Baneshan, Benishan, Chappatai, Safeda, Banaganapalli, and Banginapalli, are a variety of table fruit that is highly regarded all over the world. These mangoes grow best in dry regions that receive rainfall between 75-375 cm per annum and have a dry season. For more than a century, the unique characteristics of these mangoes have been attributed to the favorable agro-climatic and geographical conditions of Banaganapalle and the surrounding areas. Banaganapalle used to be the capital of a princely state from 1790 to 1948, and its proximity to the seat of rule by the erstwhile Nizam of Hyderabad and royal patronage led to the development of several orchards where these mangoes were grown. Over time, these orchards became famous for their bountiful crop and evolved into a source of many consignments for export.

One of the distinctive features of Banaganapalle mangoes is their unique and stable morpho-physiological fruit characteristics, which sets them apart from other types of mangoes. These mangoes can be easily recognized by people due to their unique attributes. Additionally, Banaganapalle mangoes grow well in tropical climates, and the ideal temperature range for their growth is between 20°C to 30°C. Furthermore, profuse flowering is facilitated by dry weather before blossoming.
