Bhadrachalam Temple

Location

The Bhadrachalam Temple is a renowned Hindu temple located in the town of Bhadrachalam in the Bhadradri Kothagudem district It is 40Km from Kothagudem and  310Km from Hyderabad. The temple is situated on the banks of the Godavari River amidst the surroundings of the Dandakaranya forest and is one of the most prominent pilgrimage sites in the state.

Description

The temple  is dedicated to Lord Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and is considered a highly revered pilgrimage site for devotees, especially among Vaishnavites.

The temple’s history is rooted in the epic Ramayana. According to the legend, Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and his loyal devotee Hanuman stayed in the vicinity of Bhadrachalam during their exile in the forest. The temple is believed to have been established at the spot where Lord Rama and Sita resided.

The Bhadrachalam Temple features a unique architectural style, with influences from both Dravidian and Rajasthani architectural traditions. The main sanctum of the temple houses the presiding deity, Lord Rama, accompanied by Sita, Lakshmana, and Hanuman. The temple complex also includes various other shrines dedicated to other deities.

The temple holds immense religious and historical significance. It is considered one of the Divya Kshetrams (108 sacred places dedicated to Lord Vishnu) and is associated with the Vaishnavite tradition.  The temple is particularly revered for its association with the Ramayana and the deep devotion of its devotees.

 The most important festival is Sri Rama Navami, which commemorates Lord Rama’s birth anniversary. During this festival, the temple is beautifully decorated, and various rituals and religious events take place. The Kalyana Mahotsavam, the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and Sita, is another grand festival celebrated at the temple.

 

Existing Condition

The temple is a popular pilgrimage site and is well maintained.
