It is located on the banks of the Musi river on the Sri Keshav Maharaj road in Karwan.
Description
The Kesariya Hanuman Temple in Karwan was constructed over 300 years ago, during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. It was built by Samartha Ramdas Swami, a saint who was a devotee of Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama, and also the guru of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
While Shivaji was fighting against Aurangzeb, his guru was busy setting up Hanuman temples across the country. This site, located near River Musi, is one of the places where he installed a statue of Lord Hanuman. The main Hanuman statue is situated in the basement of the temple, where the priest performs all the holy rituals.
The Sri Kesariya Hanuman Temple in Hyderabad is also known for its spectacular celebrations during the Hanuman Jayanti festival.
Existing Condition
The temple is owned by the Endowment Department and contains various modern additions. The garbagriha within the temple has been repaved with granite stone slabs.
